Did you get any detection window or any other popup from AVG displayed when plugging in the hard drive? Have you tried connecting it to another computer? Does the hard drive used space correspond the the amount of the data you had there previously?
I suggest you to check the AVG virus vault if any files were detected otherwise you have to use Usage of Recuva or any other file recovery application.
I have an external hard drive which has been used to keep backups of my photes etc. I plugged it in (F: drive) and when I opened it in explorer all I can see is a single folder "$AVG". It has a subfolder "$Vault" and lists 3 files in this folder. I believe this is the location AVG stores infected files.
Why did AVG overwrite my entire hard drive with this vault and how do i get my entire photo album for the last 18 years back…?
I had Internet Security and upgraded to Ultimate last year.
