In answer to my own question I did a repair instal of AVG and the version updated to build 19.8.4793.547. Can someone confirm this is the current version ?
I WILL NOT allow a remote connection to my computer from anywhere. Therefore my computers with Windows 7 will no longer be used, as there is no answer to my problem
When I download the file and run it through Virus total 11 engines identify it as BAD. On one of my many machines I thought I would do a full scan of my computer using AVG . It started the scan ok and then stopped halfway ,and diappearted from the screen and also the tray icon had gone. I had AVG on all my Windows 7 machines and it is clear that I will not be able to use them anymore for Internet use. I will gradually stop using them altogether send them to the recycle centre. I've had enough of AVG.

Using free version of AVG for Windows, I am on Windows 7.
On a machine that I hadn't used since 20 December the version of AVG was 19.8.3108 build 19.8.4793.545. However today I updated the definitions and the program , although the program didn't show it had been updated. I restarted and AVG said it needed a restart to enable some security features or words to that effect.
Upon restarting the version was still the same 19.8.3108 but the build number had changed to 19.8.4257.548. Has the program gone backwards ?

Please see my posting of today (Wednesday), the problem has returned and I cannot update to latest AVG by any means.
Is it possible for you to email me the actual file as an attachment. One that you have run through Virustotal ? My email should allow this size of attachment. Thanks.
While I am waiting for your reply I downloaded the AVG Clear tool and ELEVEN (11) antivirus sites on Virustotal flag it as BAD. Can you comment please ?

Please use the same link to download the AVG Clear tool.
We can assure you that you won't face any issue again and it is not possible to rename the file.

So are you saying that ELEVEN antivirus engines that say your AVG CLEAR tool is bad , nothing to worry about ?
This defies logic. Do you get the same results when you run the tool through Virustotal ?

I do not understand what you want me to do. Should I unuinstal AVG by normal method and then run the clear tool. Then do I reinstal ? Also when you say "screenshot of the update page", where is this ?
Also when you send the file can you RENAME it so something different. Thanks
