AVG VPN and AVG Free

Hello Alok

Thanks very much for this advice. The removal tools did the job well (but took a real time) and I now have AVG Free re-installed.

To be absolutely frank, given the serious amount of time this process takes, I'm not sure I could recommend AVG VPN to friends, despite the fact that it's a first-class product, given all these hassles after uninstalling it. Surely you could make the uninstall process 'fool-proof'…

Regards,

Edmund

Hello Edmund,
We will help you sort it out.
In this case, I request you to remove AVG completely along with any previous traces using the AVG clear tool/AVG Remover tool and then do a fresh installation of AVG Antivirus Free.
Please follow the instruction ( http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-troubleshoot-issues-after-upgrade-to-the-latest-AVG-antivirus-product ) to run AVG Remover tool and AVG Clear tool.
After the computer reboots, you can follow the instruction to download/install AVG Antivirus Free.
Regards,
Alok.

I have AVG Free and availed myself recently of the offer of a free trial of AVG VPN, which is a top-class VPN but I decided for other reasons not to extend it beyond the free period. I uninstalled AVG VPN. Now my AVG Free can't be turned on at all. When I click on the 'Fix Now' button, nothing happens and even though my protection is indicated as 'on', it's actually off. Something must have happened when I uninstalled AVG VPN which corrupted Free. Also to say that I uninstalled Free and reinstalled it but it's made no difference. Thanks for any help with this.

Edmund, we are happy to hear that the issue has been resolved.

We will take your feedback and forward it to our developers to make changes with our uninstaller tool.

And we hope this will be fixed in our upcoming updates.

Thanks, Vishnu.

My AVG Free is now working great, but in the app, there's this written: "AVG VPN installed", when, as you know, it isn't and I thought all traces of it have been removed.

It's quite possible I might want to (re)install VPN at some point in the future, but I doubt I could do this with this marked.

Please advise, but I don't want to go through that hugely lengthy uninstall procedure again. I took so long!

Regards,

Edmund
