AVG VPN blocking outgoing Outlook email

I would like to inform you that any VPN will virtually change your IP Address and hence your emails cannot go through as your Server detects them as a Threat. I suggest you contact your Email Service Provider to get assistance regarding the issue.

I'm brand new to the AVG VPN. I use Windows 7 and Outlook 2010. The VPN appears to be blocking the ability of Outlook to send emails. I get a fail notice. But if I turn off the VPN then the messages will send fine.
Question: Is there a setting to fix this, or do I always need to turn off my VPN whenever I want to send Outlook emails? (The VPN accepts incoming emails fine when on.)
