For some reason my AVG VPN which is in my AVG Security has changed its location from Melbourne to Madrid. Why and will this still make it run OK? I questioned why it was Melbourne as I'm in Perth WA when I was doing online chat, and the guy said you could only have the location that was there. There is a link there which says, 'Change Location' so I wondered why he said that, but it doesn't work anyway.
It tells you how to change location in the Help Topics by clicking on this link but it won't work, so what do I do to change it. Madrid is just stupid!
Thank you, I've been and done that, so will see if it is always switched on when I come on. It used to put a message on the Task Bar in the bottom right corner to say a connection couldn't be established, so when my internet had kicked in I'd go and switch it on then. Then it would tell me it was switched on successfully. It's still showing Melbourne for location as yesterday so that's OK now. Hope it stays. Thank you again.
I'm back again! The location stayed when I next started my computer up, but it didn't switch the VPN on, I had to go do it. Next time it changed location to Madrid again, but I've found out how to change it back. When you switch it off, the Change Location link changes to blue and when you click on it there are all the locations from A to Z, so I selected Melbourne Australia again. It's staying for the moment. Apparently, you can change your location when you are browsing if only people from certain countries are allowed, but I wouldn't be bothered with this. I selected to do the Automatically Secure Connection but it didn't do it. I think it's a bit temporamental, maybe sometimes it will do it and sometimes not. I always have to check it.
Another problem I'm having is that one web site I had to vist to get concert tickets in Australia, it wouldn't let me go to the site, giving me a Error 403 and saying I hadn't got permission to go there,or I was Forbidden. I managed to contact the people on the site for Customer Service as it let me go to their Help page, and they said it sounded like my IP address was being blocked. I had to send it and answer a short questionaire for their support people. When I looked up how to find my IP address from the Windows settings, it gave a white page with all the info and the number but when I checked back, I saw it had a different number there, so I gave them both and explained. They got back to me to say those numbers were wrong, and to put the question into Google. This I did and underneath my number it had 'Hide your IP with VPN' I didn't know if it was the same VPN as on AVG Security but I checked it out by switching my VPN off and seeing if I could go to this particular web site. I found I could, so that is why I was getting the error. It says that the VPN gives the IP of their server so people can't follow what you're doing on the 'net. I've sent an email off to the Help people at the web site to explain all this.
What I need to know now, is can I switch off the VPN whenever I need to go to this web site, which might only be now and again per year depending on what concerts I want to go to? I'm just wondering why it only does it with that site and not others. I can go to a couple of other concert sites without any trouble and other sites in general, so why would it only affect this one? I don't see how they can recognise to use my IP address to stop the error if the VPN is going to use a different one. Surely it will create the error all the time. Just wondering if anyone else is having this trouble?
Hello Jacqueline,
I apologize for the inconvenience caused. Please uninstall AVG Secure VPN via control panel as mentioned in this article ( http://avgread.me/1DEtNP0 ). Then reinstall it via AVG dashboard and check if it works.
Thank you.
Jacqueline,
Please be informed that AVG Secure VPN for Windows cannot be programmed to connect automatically when you start your system. However, you can adjust the program to prompt you or connect automatically whenever you connect to unsecured wireless networks. Follow these steps to adjust connection settings:
1. On the main Secure VPN screen, click Settings (gear icon) in the top-right corner.
2. Click the drop-down menu under When connected to an unsecured WiFi.
3. Select your preferred option:
-leave the connection unsecured
-offer to connect to AVG Secure VPN
-automatically secure the connection
4. Click Save changes.
If you still face any issue, please connect with our technical support team using the email instructions.
They will resolve the issue for you.
Thank you.

Hi, I don't know whether I have the Enhanced Firewall running on my PC, but do have a firewall. You have to be careful with fire walls though, as sometimes they can block things that you don't want blocked and if I don't have it and install it, it might cause other problems.
Do you mean the fire wall will be protecting my PC while the VPN is switched off, otherwise, if it was already protecting all the time it would be a waste time paying for the VPN?
Does AVG only fix their problems, not in Windows at all? Thought maybe they might know why I can't go to this web site. It says IE that I'm running, can go there but can't view the web site. Sometimes it says I don't have permission and I have an account with this web site which is for buying concert tickets.

Thank you for informing that you have a Firewall. Enhanced Firewall of AVG can protect you against threats and hackers too but it doesn't hide the IP address.
When you are browsing on the internet there are lots of chances for your IP address to get compromised which inturn makes way for hackers to steal your data.
Hence, the AVG Secure VPN program is specially designed to protect your entire network connection by masking or hiding your IP address.
Hello Jackie,
I am glad that you have understood the concept of VPN program.
It will be okay if you disable AVG Secure VPN temporarily to access a particular website.
If you have the Enhanced Firewall program running on your PC then it will be protecting your PC and don't have to worry about the security for your PC.
Jacqueline,
I completely understand your concern. I have sent an email with instructions to get in touch with our additional technical support team. Please follow that email instructions and get connected with them. They will resolve the issue with AVG Secure VPN in your PC.
Thank you.
You must be joking! I had so much trouble getting that to activate as it didn't do it as per instructions in email. I had to have a remote person to do it for me after having two online chats with people as their line kept dropping out,and their info of logging out and back in didn't work. I was logged into the interface and it wouldn't activate. I'm not uninstalling anything on my own at the moment, certainly not today as it's too late, and this computer has taken enough of my time up for the last week, what with updating AVG Security to 2017 which I had put on for me.
Windows Updates upset my AVG in the first place, but it was 2015 anyway. I had some errors fixed in Windows which included some more updates showing and an error in the data base, which have been fixed. Just wondering if that's what interfered with the location now. Now, before this happened I was dealing with an error that won't let me go to a certain web site that I'd gone to before without any trouble. Put the question into Windows Community to try to get that resolved. Just one thing after another just lately. I'll start an online chat maybe tomorrow later as I'm going out or it might be next day when I'm home.
