Hello John,
We regret for the inconvenience caused. We request you to run the AVG Rescue CD and check whether it resolves the issue. The AVG Rescue CD can be used either in the form of a CD/DVD or as an USB memory device. In both cases, the computer must be able to boot system from this device.
Preparing the CD/DVD or USB disk
1. Click here to visit the AVG Rescue CD downloads page.
2. Click Rescue CD (for CD creation) or Rescue CD (for USB stick) (ZIP or RAR archive), based on whether you want to use CD or USB disk.
3. Burn the ISO image onto CD, or extract the archive and run Setup.exe to install on an USB drive.
I am having the same issue. Created the AVG Rescue (USB version). Changed the boot sequence to start from the USB flash drive first. It does not, it always goes through the Watch Dog Initialization Phase 0 and Phase 1 stuff, then locks up… Suggestions?

We are sorry to hear that. Have you received any error message while entering into the BIOS? If so please provide us with the screenshot so that we could analyze the issue more better. Please follow the instructions on the article http://avgclick.me/getscreenshot to create the screenshot.
Thank you.
There is no error message or no warning when the computer loads into the AVG Watchdog program. The computer starts normally, however after a few seconds it goes into a black screen with a loading animation, and after about a minute or two, it loads up the AVG Watchdog and then nothing more, the computer stops functioning.
Starting the AVG Rescue CD
When you have the CD or USB disk, insert it into the computer on which you want to run the AVG Rescue CD. If the computer is not set to first check and start from CD or USB device, set it in the BIOS of the computer. After that, restart the computer. The AVG Rescue CD boot screen will be displayed:
1. Press F1 if you want to set boot options, otherwise wait 10 seconds or pres the Enter key.
2. The system will boot up. It will automatically mount (connect) the hard drives of the computer and also set the network connection.
3. When asked, we recommned to confirm the start of automatic update.
4. Once the system is loaded, you will be presented with a simple user interface. From this interface basic features can be accessed.

In the user interface, you can start the AVG scan:
1. Use the arrow keys and the Enter key to highlight the Scan option.
2. Specify whether you want to scan the whole disk or just specified directory.
3. Check options for the scan. It is usually not needed to change them and you can proceed by pressing the Enter key.
4. Confirm start of the scan.
The scan will now run on the selected files. No action will be automatically performed. After the test, result menu will be displayed. From there you can display report and also select the action for detected files:
