AVG Watchdog service uses 50% CPU

AVG Watchdog uses ~50% of my CPU. Continuously. Endlessly. And I can't stop the process it says access denied.
I am running on the following: 
Windows 10 Home version 1607
Intel Pentium 2117U @ 1.80Ghz
6GB Ram
64-bit processor
Why is it doing this? How can I stop it? This can't be normal.
