It is not possible for AVG Secure browser to get installed along with AVG Secure VPN.
On welcome screen of AVG Secure VPN installation, did you see any check box ticked saying as "install AVG Secure browser"?

I want to install it but am hesitant as I don't want it installing AVG browser as my default browser
Will it do that?
no I didn't see such a box but that hasn't stopped the default installation of the browser in the past
so my assumption is that whenever I want to upgrade or tyry a new app it will default to thje avg browser
I'm not convinced it won't do it again.
Bill, it is not possible for you to get AVG Secure browser installed along with AVG Secure VPN.
When you perform the installation of AVG Antivirus free and AVG Internet Security, you can see the check box ticked to install AVG Secure browser by default. It can be unchecked and proceed with the installation, if user doesn't wish to get it installed.
