AVG will not open, and icon has dissappeared from tray

Let's fix it together. Mostly this issue will occur if the UI executable file gets corrupted or missed. We recommend you to repair http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-repair-AVG your AVG Internet Security and check if it helps.

Else, refer this article: http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-troubleshoot-issues-after-upgrade-to-the-latest-AVG-antivirus-product  to uninstall and reinstall AVG Internet Security Unlimited. Note: Run AVG Clear tool to uninstall it.

I've been useing AVG without issue for a couple of years. Suddenly today I noticed the AVG icon had dissappeared from tray. No big deal I figured, I'll just open AVG from the Start Menu.

But it will not start. I checked in the Task Manager, and can see the AVG processes:
AVG Firewall Service
AVG Service
AVG Software Analyzer
Not sure if this is normal, but the AVG firewll service icon is blank in Task Manager window

I checked the Control Panel and it says AVG was installed … today? Maybe there has been an update that's gone awry.

I'm considering a re-install, but it's a worry this has happened. I would prefer to understand why, rather than just perfrom a dumb re-install

Any suggestions welcomed

Ranjani, thanks for you offer, but since posting AVG has somehow recovered itself. FInally AVG opened by itself and now know it was in fact performing an update to 18.4

But … I really wish AVG would tell me when this is happening! Especially since it seems to be a very, very slow process, possibly requiring several reboots. It only recovered after I was restarting (again) but for other reasons, not an AVG request

It has cost me several hours trying to figure out what the issue is… very poor AVG
