Thank you for providing with the screenshots. This could be caused due to an incomplete installation of program updates. I would suggest you to uninstall AVG traces completely and re install AVG Anti Virus free.

Hi, after (I think) a Windows update, AVG has an error message that tells me that the programme needs to be updated.
When I click "update" the screen tells me that the programme is already updated, however it keeps repeating. I checked the Windows settings, and I find that Windows says the status of AVG is unknown.
I tried repairing AVG as I saw this suggestion for a similar problem, but to no avail.
AVG reports that it is not updated but then it says it is, then the error message comes back.
Can you help?
