Temp fix for avg firewall and windows 10 mail app sync issue, leaving C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\SVCHOST.EXE set to Advanced Settings. In the Firewall / Applications / Host Process For Windows Services "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\SVCHOST.EXE". Hilight it and Click Edit. Then edit the HTTP Client rule, adding the needed ports (ie. yahoo) to remote ports. (80-83,465,993)
I found the solution. I use AVG too and I had issues syncing a gmail account. Basically, you go to your firewall settings and click on the tab which lists all the rules for applications (The tab is called "Applications"). You then find the ones labeled Host Process for Windows Services. The Domains for these applications should be: "C://Windows/System32/svchost.exe and C://Windows/SYSWOW64/svchost.exe"
Enable/Allow these to bypass the firewall and the app should be working.
Hello Kenton. For your information we didn't suggest this as a solution. The customer named Ernie who created this post informed that this got worked. However we immediately replied that not to follow this solution since there will be a huge chance for PC getting infected. We have escalated this to our concerned team and we are not sure of the time frame for this solution. I would request you to keep checking this thread. Thank you.

Thank you.
When will AVG have a solution to this problem that does not compromise security? If no ETA, will look for other solutions because I need mail to work!
I've seen this solution suggested elsewhere. AVG needs to make this more public as this is a bad solution. Malware often run as svchost and this would allow any malware running as that to bypass your firewall. DO NOT consider this to be a permanent solution.
Having said that, how can this be taking so long?
As I posted in a Question I had, think AVG is waiting for their free Windows 10 update to test.
