I have found that if you turn off the turbo mode ( i am using avg internet security and I go to the tune up page and go to the row of four buttons on bottom left battery right arrow speedo and aircraft, to turn off turbo press the second button - the arrow ) and system restore works.
If this is being monitored by avg then I agree with debbie, this is an issue which is likely to lead me to decide not to renew avg. the avg system should not cause a problem to the windows protection. I buy a product that I want to protect my use of the computer. It is bizarre that the avg product actually stops a feature in windows which protects my use of the computer by allowing me to bring the computer back to a point when I know that ti works

We are sorry to know that you are unable to set system restore. Could you please let us know if you get any error message from AVG when you try to set a retore point?

I can't rud System restore or set a restore point, even when I switch to Economy Mode on AVG.
How do I STOP AVG from running?
