Avg won't open on my computer

Doug,
Sorry to hear about the inconvenience caused to you. The free version does not have any expiry date. I would suggest you to uninstall AVG as suggested in this article http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-uninstall-AVG-AntiVirus-for-Mac and reinstall it.
To install, please refer the steps in this article http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-download-and-install-AVG-AntiVirus-for-Mac

Same here. iMac, OS 10.12.3. Opening AVG the field at top right says "not connected". When I select "connect" in the drop down, nothing changes.

At top right it says "An error occurred during updating". I click "try again" and nothing changes.

I cannot turn on Realtime Protection becuase there's an "invalid connection".

When I visit AVG/My Account I am automatically looged in.

I tried the "forgotten password" process, used the new one, and no change.

I don't think I've manualy used it for a scan or anything for several months. Has it timed out? Does the free version have a time limit?

My thanks in advance for any advice.

Best Regards - Doug

For all who is facing problems after installing AVG (for me AVG Antivirus Free)

BOOT your system in to SAFE MODE. if you are not able to access settings, then do this:
1) unplug your pc
2) plug in and press power button
3) when you see the loading dots quickly unplug the pc
4) repeat step 2 and 3 for 2 times
5) you will finally enter windows recovery
6) click troubleshoot->start up settings-> then click restart
7) You will get a menu. in that press 4 on the keyboard
8) System will reboot and you're on safe mode. Uninstall AVG Product.
9) Reboot system
10) Now you have peace now you are releived

Hi Laura,
I apologize to hear about the inconvenience caused. May I know the exact error message if it generates any when you try to open AVG? I would suggest you to repair AVG to resolve the issue. To repair your AVG please follow these instructions:

Go to Start -> Control Panel.
Note: Click Settings first if Control Panel is not available in the Start menu.
Open (Programs) -> Programs and Features, or Add or Remove Programs.
Select AVG Protection/Internet Security in the list of programs.
Click the Change or Change/Remove button.
Select Repair.
Follow the instructions on your screen to complete the installation.
Restart your computer.

Hello Avinash,

that solution seems to have worked thanks.
