Thank you.
Thanks for your help. I have now removed and re-installed. However I suspect there may NOT have been a problem and I was partly-protected but did not understand the messages in AVG. On checking my downloads I see I paid for an AVG-Ultimate copy on 24 June 2016, so possibly I had run out of paid Zen and did not realise. Possibly I still had free protection. If that was the case could have saved time on uninstall/install to now have AVG free. Anyway appears sorted now.
Just out of interest it used to be possible to see a list of virus scan results, but I can't see a 'reports' menu now. Neither could I in Zen.

For the last few days or longer I've been getting this message. When I click on fix it does not fix it. Instead the message remains red, having turned green briefly. There are similar posts on the help site, and none seem to have an answer that works. So what is wrong?
PS I don't know if relevant but I took the 'one-off' windows XP update for the recent cyber attack
Hugh,
We are glad to know that your issue is resolved. I see that your AVG Ultimate has expired on 6/26/2017. Hence you are using AVG Free Antivirus in your PC.
To generate a scan report, please open AVG->Antivirus->Scan setting (symbol of gear, bottom of the window)->Deep Virus Scan setting (symbol of gear, Deep Virus Scan tile)->Click on "Report file"->Check "Generate report", fill "Filename" (e.g. AVGScanReport), and check all reported items (Infected items, Hard errors, Soft errors, OK Items, Skipped items)->Click on "OK" to save changes.
To view the scan report, please follow the path " C:\ProgramData\Avg\Antivirus</a> report".
Thank you.
