Hello Joe,
We apologize for the inconvenience caused. Our 'free' users were recently offered with 'upgrade' to 'trial' version with advanced features. In case if you do not wish to use the 'trial' version with AVG ZEN, we suggest you to remove AVG traces using remover tool( http://aa-download.avg.com/filedir/util/AVG_Remover.exe ). Please restart to complete the uninstalling process. After running AVG Remover, you may need to manually uninstall any remaining AVG applications and also 'search' for a folder "AVG Remover"(usually in 'C' drive) and please delete it manually. And then install AVG Antivirus Free by clicking on http://files-download.avg.com/inst/mp/AVG_Antivirus_Free_692.exe .Thank you.

4 hours ago my computer crashes. I wasn't running any programs, wasn't even on the computer. I just happened to be standing in the room and saw it go down.
When it came up, AVG zen was magically installed!? Thanks for asking first! Then it was 3.5 hours of unexpected reboots, crashes, locked screens. WTF? I'm quite capable of breaking my machine on my own - no need to ask AVG for help. I tried to just uninstall the zen, but it told me that AVG antivirus was wrapped up in it, so I had to delete that first. Then I deleted the Zen. Now I'm off to find an anti-virus company I can trust. Hint - it won't be AVG.
