Avgclear download is not working to remove in safe mode

It is not progressing in bar below Uninstalling the product
                                                     Calling named action: AcsClearMsiFromZenAndFmw

1.5 hrs later - nothing. How am I supposed to get this off my desktop? Do I "X" out at top right. 
It does not go to restart page. This is very frustrating. I have had AVG free for years on several
systems and this is a hostage situation.
