Hello Paul.
Thank you for explaining your issue clearly. We would request you to first remove any anti spyware of malware software from your PC. They might conflict with AVG and it is not recommended to use multiple anti virus or anti spyware programs simultaneously. This will cause your PC to run very slow. We would also suggest you to review installed software on your PC and uninstall any unwanted or unknown programs, tool bars and search engines. Please also consider reviewing your browser settings and remove unwanted add ons and reset browser to default settings. Please, feel free to let us know if you require any further assistance. Thank you.
Dell Optiplex 745, 5/80GB, Windows 7 Home Premium. SpywareBlaster, Malwarebytes, AVGFree, CCleaner, REVO 1.95, all free applications. Starting in early July, corresponding with the imminent release of W10, small but annoying glitches started to show up all across the board with most programs, particularly Updates and AVG. These small problems snow-balled, compounded, took over, and destroyed my rig. The short story is that by the time I have reached about ten days ago I had gone through 3 sessions with Microsoft Support (which did no good) and eventually wound up doing a repair install and twice two complete clean-outs, one of which was my fault because I did not go through the updates as fasttidiously as I should have. Good thing I've got the DVD…My AVG is now starting to act up again, and most noticeably also is my "Theme" program doing strange things with the pictures and when switching between Theme and Windows Classic displays. I have been flagged by the Dell Support Assistant program: "File Information FS Minifilter - C:\Windows\system32\drivers\fileinfo.sys" & "FLTMgr - C:\Windows\system32\drivers\fltmgr.sys" as the descriptors for two BSOD I recently had. These related (apparently) to my NETGEAR WNA1100. Thought that the Netgear dashboard and the "Direct connection" choices were confusing the computer and I eliminated the dashboard and went with straight connect. This seemed to help somewhat, but my AVG is still slow (from originally 3 seconds to display to 25 seconds) to initialize and comes up in "pieces" rather than as a whole. About 2-3 times a week on boot I find that AVG protection with Computer and Identity are not functional and red-lined. I tried the available "Fix Now", but that did not help. Have to do a re-boot into Safe Mode and come back into normal Windows (restart) to get full protection. My theme pack is also slow to respond, loads in pieces, and won't save my settings. I have tried two repairs (AVG) and one complete scrub and reinstallation, but nothing changed. When I ran the repair the application hung at about 7/8 finished and would not complete. Wondering if Visual Studio could be part of this and should I run a repair on that? While trying to dig out this problem I have come across several blogs that pointed to Microsoft pre-installation W10 files and that these can be downloaded and install themselves without permission. I have had my updates on "Download but let me choose" since early July so that I could peruse the files and keep anything I could find relating to W10 away from my set-up, but if these supposed pre-installation files DO exist then how are they to be identified and stopped? W10 made a train wreck out of my computer (pre-installation files or not) three times and now I'm overly paranoid about anything related to W10. I believe that the problem with the "Theme" is most likely a clue, not a symptom. I know that AVG is likely not responsible for any of this, but one of the indicators that more trouble is coming is the odd manner that AVG starts to misbehave. Have scanned and scrubbed myself silly and cannot find any indication of a Trojan, worm, PUP, etc. Should I try Kaspersky TDD or something else? Also, I ran a Safe Mode scan with Malwarebytes Chameleon and that application hung, as did the AVG Cmd Line Scan. My IE has been deteriorating for the last 4 days (No Firefox problems). Yesterday I found (in Services) that Windows Time was shut off, although I'm not sure that WT isn't an automatic, on-demand function(?) or would even be part of my problem. A twisted trail for sure, any pointers or information would be appreciated as my tech savvy isn't up to this.
