AVG Antivirus Free version 16.101.7752
Framework: 1.112.2.28116
Setup: 1.112.2.28116

After starting my Windows XP machine, "avgidsagent" service was running at 100% on one core of my CPU.

I tried to disable the service, but it hung in Services window and never completed, so I shut down the PC.

After restarting AVG reported that "Identity" was not protected. I clicked on "Fix it" but it did not complete - probably because the service was disabled.

So I changed the service to "Automatic" startup and click on AVG's "Fix it" again. This time it completed and the service was no longer using 100% CPU.

So what happened?
Why did this service use so much CPU?
Will it happen again?
