Hi Bobby, please read here (AVG Support Community | User Forum for All AVG products) avgrsa.exe is the resident shield component.
If this will not help, try to reinstall AVG (http://kb.avg.com/articles/it/How_to/How-to-reinstall-AVG?l=it)
I agree with Booby Ng. I've noticed the constant high HDD reads since 2-3 months ago, I believe since build 4569. However, I only notice the high HDD reads about 2 times per week - for example, everything will work fine for about 3-4 days, then suddenly I notice the HDD grinds - Resource Monitor points to avgrsa.exe as being the culprit. Its almost as if avgrsa is running a scheduled scan, where its scanning system files and also static apps that are not running (with no background processes). This lasts for about 6-8 hours and then eventually goes back to normal, until it re-appears again in 3-4 days time.
My settings:
- AVG "Scan files on close" is NOT chosen.
- Expert Settings - Scan only infectible files (Always scan files without extensions is also checked).
- Cache Server is also enabled
- Also, I do not run scheduled scans (I prefer to run manual scans about once per week).
These intermittent high HDD reads has become a nuisance and it affects your productivity. Its almost as if avgrsa is on steriods and you need to wait a few hours before it wears off. I often need to wait hours until I can start to use any apps which are resource intensive (such as video editing).
I'm guessing the developers had re-developed the cache server. I hope it doesn't take months for this to get resolved. Its enough to drive your customers away fairly quickly (Note: I am a paying customer).

As Nicholas stated the same problem, hope AVG will improve/fix this ASAP.
FYI I'm also a paid user.
Just a moment ago, I found out that my pc getting slow/lagging and I checked Resource Monitor and found out that Avgrsa.exe is the main problem! As the screenshot below…
Another problem is about the avgidsagent.exe, recently I reinstalled my windows and installed AVG Internet Security 2014 and this avgidsagent.exe hog up my CPU randomly! I used AVG since 2008 and I was VERY disappointed on AVG 2014 which give me so much problems.
