Did you check the CPU usage for AVG earlier?
Do you have a schedule scan setup in AVG Internet Security program and during the scan do you see this CPU usage?

I did uninstall the programs, first via the clear avg and then via the remove avg programs - then re-installed but the 25% cpu usage is still there.
Is this normal AVG CPU usage? I only noticed it a few days ago as my PC is slowing down.
I already did the clear, uninstall (remover) and re-install of the ultimate package. I use VPN too. Still doing the same - without any processes running, optimized and in turbo mode.
