AVGSVC.exe error on shutdown

I've had the exact same error the last two weeks on my XP Professional laptop. Called AVG support yesterday, gave a nice girl permission to install software to roam around my desktop, but she just wanted me to start reinstalling stuff, which and I've been around that track too many times to fall for it:-)

The error started after the last major AVG update, and Google shows that a number of people with XP got it, so I'll be watching this thread. BTW, I have a 3 PC two year license that cost $129, though it's on my other e-mail, so I get the free call in support, but this looks more promising. There's another thread here in AVG support with the same issue, also with Karthikeyan participating for AVG.

I cannot get a screenshot in the conventional manner because this happens during system shutdown & everything I could use for the screenshot is gone by then - in about 5 seconds after the error shows the system shuts down. I will try to take a photograph of the screen and upload it.

The sequence of running remover & clear and then doing a re-install was already done remotely by an AVG technician after the automatic upgrade had failed.

I can/will do it again but it may be a few days before I have time.

Also, I had previously stated that this only happens on one of my XP machines. That turns out to be not quite the case. It happens consistantly on one of my XP machines but yesterday it happened once on my other XP machine.

Hello Steven,

I understand your concern. Please provide me the screenshot(http://avgclick.me/getscreenshot) of the error message you received, so we can check the same and assist you further.

On one of my XP machines AVGSVC.exe gets a protection fault accessing location 0 on every system shutdown. This does not occur on my other XP machine.

I am doing the repair now. I will report on the results.

Steven, For your info, just in case that you are unaware, you can post the screenshot here in your topic. Click on 'Answer' & then click on the 'Image' [mountain symbol] & follow the instructions.
