I was able to solve my problem, not by disabling avg, but my adding my external hard drive to excemptions. My external hard drive is labled as drive d. I'm not sure why I didn't do this sooner. As a former computer repair tech, this issue had me stumped, but never hurts to ask questions.
That might be what is causing the problem. I'll turn the option off tonight and see what happens.
Hi Justin,
AVG AntiVirus will scan external hard drive.
You can right on the hard drive and manually scan it with AVG.
I have avg antivirus free edition. Software version 20.2.3116. Every weekend, I back up data ranging in size from about 28 gigs all the way to 98 gigs of data to an external hard drive. I have done this for years. Anyway, I'm not sure how long this issue has been going on, but even though I have my external hard drive set to quick removal in the device manager, I can never eject the hard drive the first time using the safely remove hardware option in windows 7.
When I try to eject my external hard drive after data copying is done, the drive won't eject and I always double click on the hard drive in file manager so that eject times out and tells me that the eject isn't possible.
My question is "Does AVG free antivirus scan external hard drives? I do have scan removable media on at this time.
That might be what is causing the problem. I'll turn the option off tonight and see what happens.
Sure, Justin.
Thank you for your cooperation.
To provide a bit of an update, I turned off the scan external media option. After waiting for the hard drive light to not flash, I did the safetly remove hardware option and windows 7 won't eject the drive so I waited a few more seconds for the light to not flash and for my desktop computer hard drive light not to flash. The second time, I was able to successfully eject the hard drive.
So it seems that turning off the option was a good idea for me, however I still can't eject my hard drive right after copying data on the first try, however I was copying about 98.2 gigs of data so either windows wasn't done copying all data or there is something else preventing me from ejecting the drive.
Alright, Justin.
