Bash for Windows 10 - Blocked by AVG Internet Security

Hi Lars, sadly I am experiencing exactly the same.
As for you, dIsablng the AVG firewall allows it to work but obviously this isn't a solution.
Did you get it resolved?

Hello Lars,
We are sorry to know that the issue persists, could you please let us know if you have reinstalled AVG?
Thank you.

Hi,

I have now tested this in a lab environment myself. And the reults are the same as on my primary computer.

To reproduce the error, do the following:

  • Download and install Oracle VM Virtualbox (Free) form this link: https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads
  • Download a copy of the Windows 10 ISO file version 1607 (anniversary update)
  • Create a new virtual machine in Virtualbox with a bridged network adapter (not NAT). This way it will operate as a standalone device on the network
  • Install Windows 10 on your virtual machine
  • Run Windows Update
  • Install AVG Internet Security
  • Install bash for Windows (here is a guide if you need it: http://www.howtogeek.com/249966/how-to-install-and-use-the-linux-bash-shell-on-windows-10/ )
  • Open bash, and run command "ssh user@host" ex: "ssh dave@server1.contoso.com"
  • When the ssh command fails to connect. Disable and/or uninstall AVG, and try the command again.

Hi,

My subscription ends on November 13, 2016 and your super-offer for Unlimited ends in 7 days.

If the problem is not solved by then, I will switch to a different vendor which does not have this issue,

I will not allow you to remote control my PC, Please see my previous post on how to test it yourself in a lab environment.

With in AVG there is a option to allow "Windows System For Linux" access to the network.

1) go into firewall setting
2) Click "Expert Mode"
3) Click on "Advance Settings"
4) Check the box "Allow any traffic for Windows Subsystem for linux"
5) Apply

Network connectivity in bash will be restored with out having to disable firewall module.

Hello Lars,

Sorry for the inconvenience caused.
Could you please disable AVG Internet Security program temporarily and check whether Bash application is working?
To disable AVG temporarily please follow the instructions mentioned in this link: http://avgread.me/1GnMD3N .

AVG Internet Security blocks Bash for Windows.

How do I resolve it?

Tried it. C:\Windows\System32\Bash.exe still being blocked.

I have now filed the form.

Yes, I have removed it with your removal tool. And reinstalled it afterwards.
No change.

Hi,

Please, give me a solution and I will execute it. But everytime you offer to help, it seems to be in the way of remote controlling my PC, which I will not allow.

I have comfirmed that the AVG SW is responsible, by disabling and uninstalling. In both cases, the problem dissapeared. Upon installing a fresh copy of the SW, the problem is back.

Please keep in mind that my subscription is due for renewal later this year…
