Big AVG problem! Can anyone help? AVG Support certainly doesn't seem to want to!

That is a great news to hear and I am pleased to see that you appear to be now sorted.
This issue came up as the older installation files of AVG Program not being compatible with the new version of Windows. The remover tool would have removed them all, allowing you to install the latest version compatible. This fixed your issue.

I wonder if I might get some help in this area of the site.

Long story short, I had the free version of AVG, upgraded to Windows 10 and had to re-install AVG. While I opted for the free version, the Zen paid (zen) version downloaded to my PC. I uninstalled and attempted to re-download the free version, but again the paid version downloaded with the free introductory window.

I did not anticipate a huge problem and just assumed the program would switch over to the free version at the end of the introductory window.

It did not.

Now the antivirus repeatedly warns me that it is unsuccessfully able to update. I have tried to manually download the update several times, but it will not complete.

In frustration, I have tried to remove the program from my PC, but it reports uninstall is also unsuccessful.

The only other option the program offers is to repair the program, but alas it reports it cannot successfully repair the problem either.

To summarize, the AVG program will not uninstall, it will not update and clicking the repair button doesn't work either.

I have attempted to contact AVG support via chat, but the website just times out.

I had planned on ultimately purchasing an AVG antivirus package, but if  Ican't get the free version to work any better than this, what's the point?

Can anyone advise?

Hopefully AVG tech support reads the comments here as well.

The removal tool worked! It was a fairly quick uninstall and went off without a hitch.

I'm curious to know what the issue was here. Why was there such an issue getting it to uninstall, update or repair to begin with?

Would love to know what you come up with.
