Hello Jeff,
We request you to follow the below mentioned instructions once:
1) Open AVG program
2) At the top right corner click on "OPTIONS"
3) Then select "Advanced Settings"
4) To the left panel you will have more options with + symbols
5) In that click on the + symbol of "UPDATE" and you will get the drop down with sub options and in that select "Privacy Preferences"
6) To the right you can see three check boxes from the top, please uncheck all the three boxes.
7) At the bottom click on "Apply" and select "Ok"
8) Restart your PC and then check whether you get the popups from AVG and do let us know the status of this.
I spent some time in a chat/remote control with an AVG rep. He informed me that these will not go away unless I pay for AVG. I do not wish to do that.
Is there anything more that can be done to prevent these?
Jeff,
We apologize for the inconvenience caused.

I went to the area that you mentioned, however, it looks as though all three of those boxes were already unchecked (http://i.imgur.com/IUhVLzh.png).
Any other suggestions?
We understand how something like this can really try your patience.
Upon reviewing your previous case details, I see that you have installed AVG Antivirus Free. Please be informed that those are our legitimate pop up from AVG and it cannot be stopped. If you wish to get rid of those pop up you need to purchase the paid product to stop those pop up. Thank you for understanding.

If that's what they're categorized as, then yes. An example of what I am talking about is in the link from my original post: Imgur: The magic of the Internet
