I have exactly the same problem with version 22.8.3250 (build 22.8.7500.439) I am using Windows 7 Professional 64bit and my email client is Windows Mail from Vista. All the Geek settings for port numbers were correct and to get by I have disbled email scanning of secure ports in the Geek area. Note that I had no problems until the above update came through a couple of days ago.

I just updated AVG free and now the email shield is blocking my sending and receiving outlook emails on my desk top pc.
I have unchecked "scan out going emails and no difference.
When I disable the Email shield, the emailing works.
Please advise

Thank you.
If I disable scan for outbound emails; nothing works.
I unchecked the SSL scanning option and things now work properly.
But, am I at risk by not having the SSL scanning option active?
Thank you for writing us back, Al annis.
We regret the inconvenience caused. We are glad to clarify it to you.
If we disable scan for outbound emails, it will not scan secure SSL items. This is just a temporary word around and it will be fixed in the upcoming update.
Meanwhile we request your patience and cooperation.
Thank you for understanding.
You are welcome.

Thank you for replying, Al annis.
Yes, you will be at risk since it won't scan the outbound emails but it's the temporary work around and soon it will be fixed permanently.
Thank you for your understanding.
Ok. So now email works properly. But how does that help by not scanning secure ssl items?
