Boot scan is stuck

I installed AVG Ultimate on my son's gaming computer and enabled Boot Scan. I restarted the computer and now the boot scan is running (or trying to) when the PC is rebooting. The problem is the scan is stuck at 9%.

I don't have a way to interrupt this short of just unplugging the machine.

Does anyone have a recommendation for how to deal with this?
