Boot scan problem

My AVG Ultimate was recently updated to version 23.2.3273 (build 23.2.7961.777)  I run W10. Now bootscan will not work.I download the special definitions as usual, shut down then restart. All that happens is a progress bar saying AVG is loading…but it doesn't! After 20 mins I gave up &, having no other means of shutting down, held down the power button until it did. It then restarted normally, but no bootscan. Anyone had the same trouble or is it another AVG update glitch?
