Broken file or folder in Application Data

Hi Torben,

We're glad to look into this & help you.
Please share us the screenshot of the message that you receive for better clarity.
Also, let us know if you've used any removal tools to uninstall AVG.

Screenshot attached. It reads: The file or folder…is damaged and can not be read. Run chkdsk. Thank you.User-added image

Problem resolved. I avoided repetition of the incident by erasing the location and erased unused space on the drive and then reinstalled.
I think AVG is an innocent victim of a "Fatal Exception, data has been lost" a few days before - after uncontrolled mouse clicking… Vi shall learn thoughout our lives.
Thanks for your support.
Torben Reffeld.

I got this message in my XP system: the folder Documents and Settings\All Users.WINDOWS\Application Data\AVG\Antivirus  is damaged, Run chkdsk…
I did that and my PC was running all night with multiple restarts and no results.
I managed to start windows, removed AVG and reinstalled.
And then the same message began to pop up. How is it possible, when installed in a new location?
It must be a permanent error and I cannot live with it. I have just payed for a 1 year subscription.

Thank you for the screenshot, Torben
Could you check is the application is up to date updated.
Kindly inform the version mentioned in the Menu >> Settings >> Update
And also repair the product using the below link and let us know if the issue still persists :

Program is up to date. Tried repairing, same result. Problem persists.
If I uninstall/reinstall, will I keep my subscription?
If yes, should I select a different location?
Is it a problem that I use Windows XP Pro service pack 3?

Appreciate your efforts in working towards fixing the issue, Torben.
AVG is compatible with Windows XP service pack 3.
You'll be able to use the existing subscription on your computer after reinstalling.
Please uninstall AVG using AVG Clear & use offline installer, activate it in the same location.
As it isn't recommended to share the license info over this post, we've sent you an email including the code.
Please try the above step & let us know if it helps.
