Can an AVG product affect privacy settings in Windows?

I have suddenly started to get the message “RESTART REQUIRED Restart Office to apply changes to your privacy settings.” Whenever I open a Microsoft Word or Excel Document.  An online tech indicated to me that it was an AVG problem that created this problem and was affecting these Microsoft documents.  I was skeptical about his diagnosis and want to check with you.

Thank you.  Followed your advice as follows:

1) Woke up two applications–Microsoft Home & Student & One Drive.  re-booted computer but no change.
2) Have not been asked to update Microsoft certificate update.

At this stage my files do not seem to be affected by the message in any way.  I am unaware of any changes to my privacy settings or what happens if I do not save these so-called "changes"?
