Can AVG Internet Security Keep Me Away from Wannacry?

Hello Edward,
AVG will protect your from the "Wannacry" Ransomeware. AVG new version has updated its new virus definitions with all the new Ransomware, virus and malware. Do not worry, your computer is very secure and protected by AVG.
Thank you.

Hello,
I am using AVG Internet Security as the anti-virus program of my PC. Due to the "Wannacry" issue, I checked my PC and found that the Windows Defender was turned off. As Microsoft advised PC users to turn on Windows Defender to prevent infection of the ransomware, I hope to know if it is safe enough to use AVG Internet Security only, or I should be using both AVG and Windows Defender?
Edward, Which Windows OS are you using?. From Win 8 onwards Windows Defender was re-classified to an AntiVirus prog which can conflict with AVG. When AVG is installed Defender is disabled.
Windows Defender is an anti-malware component of Microsoft Windows. It was first released as a free antispyware program download for Windows XP, shipped with Windows Vista and Windows 7 and made into a full antivirus program replacing Microsoft Security Essentials as part of Windows 8 and later versions.

Hello Alan,
I am now using Windows 10. Is that mean I should turn off Windows Defender and use AVG solely in order to avoid conflicts between programs?
