My old one is windows 7 and the new one is windows 10

I have had avg ultimate and tune up for many years, my computer is on it's last legs, and I have bought a new one.  I love my old computer and am still using it until it is completely kaput … I downloaded avg free on my new one, but only occasionally check facebook and e-mail with it…banking and everything else is done on my old one.  Someone recently told me that I can likely install my ultimate and tune up on both computers with the same subscription…is this true

You'll be able to use AVG protection on both your computers, Janet.
From your description, we see that you need to activate the paid license through the free version on your new computer.
To do so : Open AVG Free Antivirus - Menu - Enter activation code (that you've received in order confirmation email).
