Can I run the AVG Antivirus MAC SCAN from Safe Mode?

I seem to have some sort of malware that reinfects my  Mac running Yosemite whenever it boots up.  I can boot up in Safe Mode but can't run the AVG Antivirus to run the MAC SCAN for some reason.  Is there some other boot-up mode that will allow me to run AVG Antivirus?
