Can I safely delete mshtml.dll not used since 2009 through 2014

Hello Joan,
Please be informed that mshtml.dll file is an important Internet Explorer file. If you delete this file, the Internet Explorer may stop working permanently. So we suggest you not to delete this files.

Thank you Alan for discribing what this dll does but I see the many on this Win 7 computer taking up much space.  Those that have not been into since 2009 through 2014.  Are these needed files?  Can they be updated without damaging my computer?
