I understand the inconvenience.
For security reasons, some of the application or files can be detected as threat by AVG.
Hence, we have to be careful while taking action on a detected threat.
If the detected file was moved to Quarantine, we will be able to restore it.
Open AVG Antivirus/Internet Security interface.
Click on "Menu" and select "Quarantine".
Check whether the specific file is listed.
If yes, select it and at the bottom, select the option as "Restore".
Keep us informed about the status.
AVG has suddenly started picking up a few files, which have been on my system for years, and linked them to a FACEBOOK-A threat that I can find no information on at all.
All the files were created by the Thunderbird email program, and contained all the messages within a single folder in my email firle directory tree.
I have no idea why these files were suddenly being flagged up.
Although this is baffling/comcerning, my major issue is …
I don't know how it happened, but on the screen that allows you to quarantine files, one file has "Deleted" against it. That ertainly was never my intention.
This file contained EVERY SINGLE MESSAGE in my "Inbox", currently about 230 messages. They are no longer available in Thunderbird. (Thunderbird puts all the messages in a folder into one single file)
Having moved away from that page, I now can't find a way back to the page that showed that file as deleted.
Is there ANY chance I can get this file back from somewhere, and recover my Inbox? I don't even remember what some of the older messages were, but they were all still in my Inbox because they needed some sort of attention.
I'm desperately hoping that someone can help me. Any chance?
Hello Mary,
I understand the inconvenience.
For security reasons, some of the application or files can be detected as threat by AVG.
Hence, we have to be careful while taking action on a detected threat.

No, the file never made to to the Quarantine area. Whatever happened (presumably I accidentally hit the "Delete" button) was before I'd quarantined it.
I can't find the file in the Recycle bin. Is there anywhere else I could look? (I'm expecting the answer "no"!)
Most of the problems that AVG have suddenly started to flag up are Thunderbird consolidated message files. Would I be at any risk if I set the entire Tbunderbird message storage structure up as an exception? As far as I know, this area only contains data files/folders (no executables),
The Inbox threat notification is a new one (last day or so), so I'm thinking that this could be an ongoing problem and I'm trying to understand what's happening, and find a workaround for the future. I don't want my Thunderbird Inbox to be considered an ongoing threat!
Is the FACEBOOK-A threat that was reported one that AVG has just started to search for (ie in last two weeks)? And if so, am I correct in thinking that the threat is new, and any AVG "finds" in old files (dated 2017 and before) are likely to be false positives?
After one "find" in a Thunderbird consolidated message file (I have other files reported apart from the Inbox), I went into Thundrbird and moved each message into their own newly created folders, ie from 9 messages in 1 folder, to 1 message in each of 9 separate folders, ran AVG on just that section of my message storage folder tree, and there were no threats detected. This suggests to me that this is a "false positive" situation. Your thoughts?
Bizarrely, there was nothing in that one original folder that had anything to do with Facebook.
All the other threats are for folders that probably contain messages that are notifications from Facebook about there being a post in a Facebook group I belong to. Should I be alerting the owner of tha Facebook group to a potential problem at their end? What would they need to look out for? Would you expect a genuine email notification from Facebook to be a threat?
If you think that this is possibly a false positive situation, would it be helpful to AVG (and me!) if I used the "Send for analysis" option to send you a copy of all of the files (around 9) that are currently in my Quarantine area?
Sorry for the long and question-filled message. But I really want to understand what's going on here, so I don't need to bother you in the future.
Mary,
I understand your concern regarding this threat detection.
This seems to be a false positive, I suggest you to send the sample of these files to AVG for analysis
http://www.avg.com/submit-sample . If found genuine, it will be added to global white-list.
It is not required to report this to Facebook page owner. Once these files are reported as safe, then it will not be blocked by AVG.
