Cancellation of my AVG software

I have been trying to cancel this account for 14 months and have been advised 
1. it cannot read my credit card and will be cancelled 7th december.
2. i get messages saying that it has been automatically renewed without my express permission.

is this a form of internet fraud where I cannot cancel a direct debit.
I have been told i'm tied in again for another 12 months.

is this fraud
