I've already cancelled auto renewal but at least 5 or 6 times every day AVG pops up teling me to renew in XX days. This interrupts anything that I'm doing and it is really annoying. How can I stop these popups.

I could not read the artuicle yesterday as I kept getting the message "We'll be right back! Sorry, we're currently hard at work inproving our Support Centre."
The pop-ups occur several times a day regardless of what I am doing [sending an email or playing a game or browsing.] Rather annoying as it was crashing games etc.
It has not happened today and I have turned on silent mode as you suggest. Thanks.
