Here we go again. AVG being very dishonest. Again, once a process is started to "look at" what is available for a particular sale (starting the sale process and then deciding against a purchase) there is NO way to close the window until a purchase is made. The ONLY way to close many of your wndows is to shur the computer down and restart. This is highly inconvenient and totally DISHONEST.
You need to have a way to close EVERY window you display on a person's computer screen. Most cannot be.
You KNOW about this problem and REFUSE to resolve it. EVERY window, without exception, should have an X in the upper right of the window that when clicked on closes it. Most of your windows do NOT.
User beware and DON't CLICK on any AVG link unlessl you are 100% SURE you are going to buy what is being offered. OR, suffer the consequences.
Hello Wayne,
We are sorry to hear this. Could you provide the screenshot of AVG Antivirus free program interface and the popup that you get?
You can post the screenshot here in your topic. Click on 'Answer' & then click on the 'Image' [mountain symbol] & follow the instructions.
Wayne, you can uninstall AVG from your computer control panel.
Follow the steps from this link https://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=Uninstall-AVG-software to uninstall AVG AntiVirus installed on your computer.
You can click on this link https://install.avcdn.net/avg/iavs9x-xp/avg_internet_security_setup_offline.exe to install the AVG version that is compatible for Windows Vista computer.
There seems to be a problem with the pop-up, you should receive the pop-up with the close option. Reinstalling AVG should fix the issue.

I attempted to re-install the program a few days ago WITHOUT first deleting it. It did not complete.
So, I waited a few days to see if anything changed after that failed attempt. Well, it did. I have received several ads since then and ALL of them had the X in the upper right corner. Soooooooooooo, the problem has been solved.
Thanks for all your help.
I recently changed computers. On a regular basis on AVG Free an AVG advertising window pops up and it cannot be removed. It seems the ONLY way it can be removed is to buy the service being advertised.
This needs to be fixed as it interferes with my use of my computer. There needs to be an X in the upper right corner that when clicked closes the window.

Hi Wayne,
We're sorry to know that the issue re-occurred.
Initially, please clarify whether you're still using Windows Vista on your computer.
For better clarity, share us the screenshot of the notification that you receive now without a x mark.
Thank you for the screenshots.
Screenshots are visible from our end. If you do not see any "X" mark to close the pop-up, then we request you to close this from task manager.
Press and hold, "Ctrl + Shift + Esc" to open task manager, from here select the AVG program and select "End Task". This will close the pop-up.
You can also run AVG repair https://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=Repair-AVG-Antivirus and check if that fix the issue permanently,
