Did you get the message as "Description: event exec finished" along with this code 0xC0070643?
Do you have any other third party antivirus installed on your PC?

Tried to follow the link to fix it but the installation fails before the AVG directory is created

Do you mean that you have the AVG Protection Free installed successfully and on the Zen interface you couldn't find the + symbol?
