Cannot locate phone

AVG cannot locate my phone. GPS and data is on. The phone locks remotely no problem and the shout feature also works but the locate feature does not. I have a galaxy S6. The gps works great on all other apps such as google maps and back country navigator. On the newer versions of galaxy the wifi has a tendency to switch itself on when it can pick up a wifi signal. Could it be that when the wifi is on it prevents the data from locating the phone? Or does this not matter? I've tried several times to turn this auto switching off the wifi off but the newer galaxies automatically pick up on wifis.

Tried it again with wifi off and just the data and gps switched on and the feature still doesn't work. GPS still works on all other apps.
Any ideas anyone?
