Alan, thanks for the link, I have seem this, amongst a nunber of others, and they all have one thing in common - only a way to fix the problem when it occurs, no solution that prevents it

I have over 20 customers who use AVG who have been locked out of their Windows accounts with the message 'The User Profile Service failed the logon' over the last couple of years. I have never had this problem from people who don't use AVG. You can do a Google search on this error message and AVG and find a number of people raising the same problem over the last few years - just look in the old AVG forum.
I know how to rescue my customers by fixing the registry (Windows help and learning), but has anyone heard from AVG or come across a way to avoid this problem occurring in the first place?
