I have a similar problem since last update of Tune Up when i want to open a pdf file.
My solution is to rename Acrobat.exe in Acrobat2.exe and change association file with these new one. Now everythiong is ok.
For all who is facing problems after installing AVG (for me AVG Antivirus Free)
BOOT your system in to SAFE MODE. if you are not able to access settings, then do this:
1) unplug your pc
2) plug in and press power button
3) when you see the loading dots quickly unplug the pc
4) repeat step 2 and 3 for 2 times
5) you will finally enter windows recovery
6) click troubleshoot->start up settings-> then click restart
7) You will get a menu. in that press 4 on the keyboard
8) System will reboot and you're on safe mode. Uninstall AVG Product.
9) Reboot system
10) Now you have peace now you are releived

This is either AVG or Windows. Can you confirm that this is not a known AVG problem, ie its Windows, and if so, any idea how I can fix this? I have also logged a Microsoft call.
I have a major problem now across multiple machines, multiple logins. All these protected by my AVG account. If I try to open any file including exe's I get this "File Explorer" problem:

it seems that AVG has problems with a path change in the Tune Up "autoreactivator.exe".
To fix the problem go to your Tune Up Application and activate all sleeping programs and set them back to sleep mode after that. This creates new entries for the reactivator in the registry.
Now go into the registry to delete the old keys in:
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options<the name of your programm that do not open>
You should have two registry keys there for each program. Take a look at the Debugger String entry.
Example:
Key 1: "C:\Program Files (x86)\AVG\TuneUp\autoreactivator.exe"
Key 2: "C:\Program Files\AVG\TuneUp\autoreactivator.exe"
You can delete the complete Key with Program Files (x86) in the DebuggerString (the old path of the autoreactivator.exe). After that everything should work like expected.
David, we're experiencing issues with Microsoft application and other programs after updating to the new version of AVG TuneUp 20.1.
We are aware of the issue and our developers are working on it to release a fix.

I can't add an image coz i cant open any apps or files
If I uninstall TuneUp will it work. I run a business and have already wasted many hours dealing with this problem. AVG should have emailed all users telling them if ths is a global problem.
I get that message when I right click on ANY file and open. multi user, multi PC
Next update!!! I need it fixed now
