Cannot remove AVG for Windows Update...Please Help

Hi Kal,

We're glad to look into this & help you.
Please let us know if you've used AVG Remover & AVG Clear tool to remove the traces of AVG.
If not, follow the steps in this article to run the Removal tools & let us know the outcome.
Additionally, would you be so kind to search for avgui.exe or avastui.exe on your computer?

No matter what I do, my Windows 10 will not update because there are some hidden AVG files somewhere in my PC that I cannot find. I have tried using the AVG Removal tool, to no avail. It could be user error that I am using the tool wrong, but I do not believe so. Where ever these files are located, I cannot manual locate them to manually remove them. Windows does not give me a file location, otherwise we would not be here right now. I would really like Windows to update, but with AVG hiding somewhere on my PC, I feel like this is a futile effort. I have not used AVG in over 4 or 5 years now, so the fact I am dealing with this now, after deleting AVG all those years ago, is extremely frustrating. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

The page you have provided has been hijacked by Homeimprovement.com…however, yes, I have used the removal tools.

Thank you for trying, Kai.

I have sent an email for additional support to resolve your issue with Windows Update. Please check the email and follow the steps as instructed.

I did a search run for avgui.exe and avastui.exe and it came up with nothing. Also, it was not a pop-up, but a redirect. No pop-ups on that page of Homeimprovement. I have tried updating Windows, but it gives me that same message that it cannot update because of an older version of AVG running. I have even tried updating AVG to see if that would fix it, it did not. I wish Windows would simply offer to delete the files as an option to get through this, or at very least give me the file location. Quite frustrating.

Issue has been resolved by the online support tech. The trick was, not adding the .exe to the end of the search run. As long as you search for AVGUI in the search, and not adding the .exe to the end of it, it pulls up the files that are blocking Windows updates. Hope this helps anyone else who is facing the same issue that I was.

Glad to know that your issue has been resolved, Kal.
Have a nice day!
