So it is now September 2019. I have encountered the same symptom today with AVG version 19.7.3103. Has this issue been resolved or a workaround been shared?
FWIW the file that is beeing quarantined is C:\cywin64\bin\perl.exe (identified with Threat as IDP.Generic).

I have AVG free version 19.5.3093 (build 19.5.4444.497) and after I did a deep scan today, a file was detected and automatically quarantined. I need that file. I try to restore it but avg encounters an error and cannot restore it. It says "Whops, error occured. This file can't be restored". The option to restore and add as an exception does not work either. Is there a way to fix this? thanks
Costas, AVG application cannot be installed in Linux PC.
You can check on a Windows Virtual Machine and follow the above steps as instructed.
We're sorry to know that, Martin. Would you be so kind to check & let us know if the 'Restore' option alone works or provides same message?
Okay, Martin. Thank you for the info.
We have forwarded this case to our senior team, they will check and get back to you via email soon.
Your patience is much appreciated.
Hi Avinash, thank you for the link. I've run the diagnostic software and sent you the output as indicated. Fingers crossed you guys can find what is happening…
Hi Martin,
This isn't the usual behavior of AVG program.
In this regard, please repair AVG program once to check if it helps.
Costas, we've received a workaround from our next level of support team.
You can try restore the file this way:
1. Open "C:\ProgramData\AVG\Antivirus\chest" and copy all files to USB flash drive.
2. Install AVG to another PC > Open AVG > Menu > Settings > Troubleshooting > General > Troubleshooting > uncheck "Enable Self-Defense".
3. Paste data from USB flash drive to "C:\ProgramData\AVG\Antivirus\chest"
4. Restore should work now in another PC.
5. You can copy the restored files back to your PC.
Please keep us informed about the status.
Appreciate the confirmation.
To analyze it further, I need to submit your concern to our senior technicians along with other diagnostic logs.
I have sent you an email containing steps on how to collect and upload the data required for analyzing your issue. Please check your inbox and spam/junk folder as well.

Yes, the same error message pops up when I try to "restore" alone. Same for "restore and add exception" Either way, the file remains in quarantine.
Martin, we appreciate your efforts.
We have received the diagnostic logs from your end.
Please provide us the screenshot of the error message to escalate the case further.
Hi Dinesh, thank you for your response. Unfortunately, avg still encounters the same problem after being repaired. I dilligently followed the instructions, rebooted but the file cannot be restored still. It remains in the quarantine, and the same error notification pops up. Anything else we can try? thanks
