I am sorry to hear that. I would suggest you to disable AVG program (Right click AVG located in the system tray and temporarily turn off the protection) and check if you are able to receive the email.
Do also disable the email component separately (AVG > Menu > Settings > Components) and check it.

Updated from Norman to AVG successfully. Had to set e-mail address and password. Got e-mails form AVG: subscription and another for activation. Then I found out that sending e-mail does not work. I can receive e-mails, though.
