Cannot send/recieve email with AVG turned on

my avg doesn't allow me to send/receive emails on my outlook 2010. This has been going on for about a month now. i get an error message "receiving reported error (0x800CCC0F)". when i shut off the avg email scanner i get the emails but when i put it back on i get the error message. i have updated the avg about 3 days ago but that hasn't helped.
