For the last 8 days I am unable to run AVG AntiVirus or AVG Browser. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall but have not had any joy. When I try to initiate AVG I get the message

I tried restart - did not work. Tried shutdown and restart - did not work. Tried repair , comes up with Repair failed.
Nothing new has been installed since first Jan 2021.
I desperately need help to sort the mess on my laptop. Google Chrome/email works ok but serious problems with AVG Antivirus and AVG Browser. Any files I download seem to download but I cannot run them but I can see them in the download folder.

Many thanks for getting back to me. Apologise I did not mention the Operating System.
I am Windows 8.1 Build 9600.
Windows generally works ok. Chrome works ok. Office programs seem to work fine.
Problem appears to be with AVG antivirus and AVG secure browser. The message I get is exactly as I wrote in my original message, i.e.

I have a screen shot but how do I attach it to this reply? When I select Image, although I see the screen to select the image, I am unable to navigate and select the save screen shot as the screen just freezes! Sorry!

We suggest you to follow the below steps and check if you're able to open the AVG AntiVirus and AVG Secure Browser.
1. Ensure you are logged in to Windows as a user with administrator permissions.
2. Press the Win and R keys on your keyboard simultaneously to run the Windows Services console, type services.msc, and click OK.
3. In the Services console, locate and right-click AVG Antivirus, then select Properties.
4. Ensure the General tab is selected, click the drop-down menu next to Startup type and select Automatic. Click Apply to confirm changes.
If the service stops running, click Start in the Service status section.
5. Restart your PC and open AVG Antivirus again.
Please follow the same instruction for AVG Secure Browser and restart your PC to check.
