Cannot switch back to free avg from internet trial expired

I found another article that said to run an AVG program called AVG_Clear. It is said to run in safe mode. I did it and after re-installing AVG free, I successfully got back my Free AVG.

However, now everytime I boot my PC, it always goes into a boot menu where I have 2 choices:
- boot normally in Windows
- boot in safe mode for AVG_Clear

How do I get back my normal boot ?

Browser Ice,

This could be annoying, however, let’s try to sort this out right away. We need to uninstall that expired version from Control Panel -> Program and features -> Uninstall.

After restart, download and install AVG Antivirus Free - offline installation file. Use this link: https://www.avg.com/en-us/download.prd-gsr-free to download offline file as per your computer operating system bit size. Thank you for choosing AVG, we are here if you need further help.

Last month I had an issue with my free avg. I do not recall what it was. So I uninstalled it and fetch back the installation.  I do not know how this happened but it somehow switched to a internet protection trial.  I found out today upon starting my free avg that it is telling me my internet project trial has expired and the only given option is to pay for it.  I checked the support option on how to switch back to free avg but it is not working.  I still have the same issue.

The support instructions to switch back on step 3 was different for me.  I did nto have any options to switch back to free avg when I asked to uninstalled it. It only gave me 3 options (in French): repair, browse and uninstall. If I clicked this browse option, it brought me to a screen saying free avg with folder where to install it + a drop down box with 3 choices of protection (minimal, recommended, personnalized) + 7 checked boxes (4 agent types and other options) + bottom button. It had no informations saying to switch back to free avg. I clicked the bottom button and it said it made modifications and closed.  But when I started my free avg again, it is still showing an expired trial and wants me to buy a renewal.

What do I do besides uninstalling everything and going for a competitor ?

I have been using free avg for 10 years and it is the first time I have issues with it.

Hello Browser Ice,
I understand the inconvenience caused, let's work together to fix this issue. Please press Windows Logo+R: Run dialog box and type msconfig > Boot > Select "Boot in safe mode for AVG_clear" and delete it.
Note: Please do not delete "Boot normally in Windows".
Regards,
Alok.
