Cannot Update Virus Definitions on MAC

Hello, 
I am running a MAC book, and I have AVG installed. It is "AVG Antivirus" version 18.2. I cannot update the virus definitions. It says "Virus definitions" not up to date. The MAC book has a good network connection from which I can browse and send email. Can you please advise on some troubleshooting steps to try and resolve this issue?
