Thankyou Hariharkumar Lakshmi.
I addded C:\Program Files (x86)\Canon\EOS Utility\EOS Utility.exe to the Exceptions and the software now launches and transfers the pictures again! Thankyou very much for the help!
Hi Subhadeep,
Yes, the system restore did sort the problem out. However, the problem was caused by the AVG download being misdirected to an absent external hard drive. I had attempted to download a film from Google for viewing whilst away a couple of weeks ago. I hadn't realised that this had changed the default settings for downloads as I hadn't used the laptop since then. Hence, the messages about unable to find the specified path.
On the upside, my camera has the latest firmware and I now have the latest version of EOS utility!
Many thanks for your help and hopefully this will teach me to be more observant when downloading!
Thank you
Alan

Have the same problem. My EOS Utility do not launch after installing the latest AVG (Free) update. But. If I make a system restore then i will have the older AVG AntiVirus? And when I make an AVG update my EOS Utility would't launch?

Hi Mart, please download and run this http://download.avg.com/filedir/util/AVG_SysInfo.exe, briefly describe the situation, include link to this conversation and send it. Specialists will contact you on your e-mail after analysis. Thank you.
I''ve been using the Canon EOS Utility today for taking product photos. The camera is connected to my laptop via a usb cable. Following several prompts that AVG wanted to update which I cancelled, it then threw up a message saying a restart was required. I presume that it downloaded the update anyway without my knowledge? I then did a restart over lunch but when I tried to launch the EOS Utility again, it failed to start.
I've reinstalled the EOS software from the original CD but can't get the latest version as I get an error message 'Cannot create file "E\1436199832341.DownloadFile".The system cannot find the path specified.
I've also downloaded and installed the latest firmware for the camera but still no luck.
AVG is the only thing that has changed between the EOS utility working and not working.
I am now thinking of uninstalling/reinstalling AVG to see if this helps but just thought I'd ask the question before doing this.
Many thanks to anyone who may be able to help.
